Solar Farm Project

Building on the success of the 10-megawatt Chebucto Pockwock Windfarm, UHPCLT and its partners are advancing a bold renewable energy initiative under the Province’s new 100-megawatt solar development program. Together with the Upper Hammonds Plains Community Development Association (UHPCDA), Melvin Land Tract Protection Society (MLTPS), and Emmanuel Baptist Church (EBC), we are proposing a 7-megawatt solar farm on a leased portion of the historic Melvin Land Tract.

The $16 million project will be financed through investors and structured so that the community holds majority ownership—51% through our partnership—with MegaWatt Energy holding 49%. This model ensures that sustained revenues flow directly back into community organizations, supporting housing, cultural, and social initiatives for generations to come. The solar farm represents not only a step toward clean energy, but also a powerful example of how community-led projects can create long-term sustainability and shared prosperity.

A successful renewable energy project in Upper Hammonds Plains. However, please note that we’re currently working on a solar farm project.
